The Cricalot was created by Richard Levitan, MD, an emergency physician and "Airway Enthusiast" who needed a better model for teaching anatomy, proper proceduralism, and high rep cric practice. 

Pig tracheas, latex models, and 3D printed models do not teach the essential aspects of the procedure--stabilization of the laterally mobile larynx, sternal stabilization of the scalpel, a vertical skin incision with verification of the CTM, use with fake blood, accurate demonstration of the "cartilaginous cage," male and female anatomic differences, and a soft durometer trachea of appropriate length.
